i've now got it sorted what i am allowed to create, and its a middle ground of hyper simple and hyper stylistic. we are allowed to use textures and gradients so the pieces can look a little more interesting but the shapes have to stay graphical and simple with the main focus on being on the motion graphic principles.

with that in mind i think i will take the approach of choosing a principle to heavily portray in the animations first, then apply themes and locations that would be relevant to that principle. i would then choose a fitting soundtrack and then finally storyboard with the sound in mind to hopefully create a piece which successfully combines all the elements.
